I can go on and on telling you about how great this traditional Batak wedding is. For a traditional ceremony, the whole event was just so amazing to me that I could list a million things I love about it. The vibrant colors, the procession and its meanings, and basically the whole nature of the event will be at the top of that list. I could tell you about how honored and privileged I felt to be included in this celebration of love, but today, I would just like to share with you something about this couple.
Rendi and Siti’s love story is a fairy tale in its own way. They dated for a while, but then they decided to go on their separate ways as they were separated by distance when Rendi moved overseas. Siti remained close to home and in the loving arms of her family who loves her. But as time went by, they kept in touch, even as friends. One day, as if all of a sudden, Rendy decided to come home and the first person he wanted to call was Siti. All he wanted to do at that moment was to tell her that he could not live without her any longer. He was so sure about it that when he finally met her, he immediately asked her for her hand in marriage.
You see, people say that marriage takes a lot of thought and I couldn’t agree more about it. Marriage shouldn’t be a spur of the moment decision that is made lightly and I completely agree with that. But you know, there are times when your heart is so sure that you no longer need your mind to think through everything twice and your soul feels electrified by the thought of having to live without that one person in your life. Marriage needs thoughts. But it also needs heart. When I think back on Rendy and Siti, this quote comes to mind: “Don’t marry the person you can live with. Marry the person you can’t live without.” Because that’s just exactly what they did.
Rendy and Siti were joined as one in the midst of their closest family and friends. They both come from a very family-centered family that the event was filled with so much emotions. Many shed happy tears and in the midst of the traditional procession, the love of the family was its centerpiece.
Rendy and Siti, thank you for sharing your journey with me. May your marriage be even more beautiful than your beautiful wedding day.
Cheers,
Jimmy
